Dalby health service goes viral on social media with new trend

THIS local health clinic found nationwide attention after creating a challenge.

ONE of Dalby’s health clinics has started a new social media trend that’s gone viral during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Goondir Health Services created their new Deadly Moves challenge to keep workers fit during the pandemic.

Goondir’s executive service planning and reporting person Paul Penumala said the challenge started as part of their response to the coronavirus and the shutdown of all gyms.

He said one of the nurses came up with the idea of doing push ups and other bodyweight exercises before entering the clinic.

“People have to do some exercises when they get in the clinic,” Mr Penumala said.

“We’re doing it to show the community that we’re doing exercise and we’re giving other organisations a challenge.”

Goondir posted the challenge on their Facebook page on April 27 and encouraged several health services and even Prime Minister Scott Morrison to take up the challenge.

Mr Penumala said they were originally going to put the challenge up to Indigenous organisations but now the challenge is open to all.

“We’ve got people all the way up to the Northern Territory and Western Australia,” he said.

“Eventually we got more buy-in from some of the Brisbane organisations.”

Some of these organisations include Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN, Queensland Aboriginal and Islander Health Council and Toowoomba’s Better Movement Clinic.

People and organisations share their videos on social media with the hashtag #deadlymoves.

The original video has been viewed over 2500 times on Facebook by people all over the country.

“I’m glad that it’s started off it South-West Queensland,” he said.

“It’s something to smile about, I must say.”
