Former Dalby rugby league players came together over the weekend to celebrate the rich footy history of the town and share great memories of time on and off the field back in the day.
Captain-coach of the 1974 Waratahs team Scott Tweedy hosted and helped organise the reunion day, and said it was “terrific” to be back on home soil after he left Dalby four years ago.
“We’re a very fellowship minded club, nearly all of us in some way shape or form have stayed in touch with each other over the years,” he said.
The former captain played for the Waratahs for 40 years, which was one of Dalby’s original rugby league clubs.
Before starting a new dynasty, footballers played under the Waratahs, Colts or Brothers before players joined forces and formed the Dalby Diehards in 1993.
The 30 year celebration saw former players and captains swap stories from their playing days and share words of encouragement to current players.
“I realise there’s a lot of different generations of Waratahs, from different decades,” Mr Tweedy said.
“It’s good to see everyone come back, enjoy themselves and socialise.
“We have one of the best clubs in the world. Dalby will always be home.”
Later in the day Dalby Diehards A-grade team beat the Warwick Cowboys 40-18, with the team’s star fullback Chris Woodbridge claiming three tries and Joshua Soronakadavu scoring two.
Ratu Dekedeke, Steve Franciscus and Sam Gillespie all crossed the line, helping Dalby claim their latest victory.
The Diehards will take on the Pittsworth Danes on Saturday, August 12 at the Pittsworth Rugby League Grounds.
