Dalby art gallery generating a buzz in the art community

The Dalby art gallery has generated a lot of buzz with it’s recent exhibition, pulling many tourists into town.

SPECIAL EXHIBITION: The 12 Norman Lindsay pieces on display through Graham Brandon’s collection.

QUEENSLAND native Graham Brandon had a deep love and appreciation for fine art.

So much so, that after a long and successful career in the engineering business and in his passing, Mr Brandon’s art would become his stock, shares and ultimatley his legacy because “it is much nicer to look at”.

There are more than 100 paintings in Mr Brandon’s collection, with notable mentions of previous Archibald winners such as Max Meldrum and Ray Austin Crooke.

Gallery 107 @ Dalby manager Carolyn Tillman burst with joy when she began speaking about the collection and the rare exhibition being shown in town.

“We have had so much interest from the exhibition it has been unbelievable,” Cr Tillman said.

“I have also been really surprised with the vast age groups that have been coming through that want to take a look at the pieces.”

While the collection holds a wide range of prestigious artists, the most impressive is a collection of 12 pieces from Norman Lindsay.

“I would doubt that anyone else would have this much of Norman Lindsay’s work,” Cr Tillman explained.

“I have been in touch with some people in the know in the art community and they have all said, that this is one of the most impressive collections outside of a major city.”

The gallery was granted another week to display the exceptional collection after the overwhelming support from the community, and tourists.

“I thought it would be great to have it open through Australia Day weekend and Mr Brandon’s wife was kind enough to agree,” Cr Tillman explained.

The gallery will be extending their opening hours on the weekend.

They will be open from 9.30am-1.30pm on Saturday and from 11.30am-3.30pm on Sunday.
