A FRIENDLY competition never hurt anybody.

In fact, in the case of three of Dalby's most prominent community groups, a little competition is what is bonding them together.

Zonta, Rotary Club and the Lions Club went head to head on Sunday for the Hand of Friendship contest at Mt Pleasant Rifle Range.

The Lions Club took out the competition after a long dry spell due to the Rotary Club's affinity for friendly competition.

President of the Lions Club Julianne Shipway was so excited by the win she did a "lap of honour”.

"The Rotarians have held the trophy for the last four years,” Mrs Shipway said.

"They have beaten us at every challenge in the last four years.

"We set out to try and get that trophy back and we did succeed.”

Mrs Shipway said the connection between the three clubs was important as they continue to help the community.

"We're all friends in service to the community,” she said.

"We often help each other out if there's a big occasion and we need extra assistance.”

Despite ending the Rotary Club's winning streak, president Glenn Hay said the day was still a great way for the clubs to band together for some friendly competition.

"I think we're like-minded people,” Mr Hay said.

"When you look at what the clubs do and what they represent, they're essentially the same.

"It's basically just the community working together.”
