More than 900ha has been destroyed near Wieambilla with crews battling a fire for the past five days. Find out more.

Fire crews continue to battle a five day blaze at Crossroads near Wieambilla which has destroyed more than 900ha of forest.

Crews responded to the fire at about 9.40am on Thursday, November 7, which had become out of control adjacent to Vanrenen Rd and near the Condamine State Forest.

A Queensland Fire Department spokesman said they currently had the blaze contained and were using heavy machinery to push over trees and create a fire break.

They said multiple Rural Fire Service and QFD crews were on scene mapping out the area and they had required the use of fire fighting aircraft at multiple times throughout the five days to fight the fire.

They said the cause of the fire remained unknown.

The blaze is just one of several fires which have rocked the Western Downs over the past week including fires in neighbouring Kogan and Weranga both believed to have been deliberately lit.

A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said about 3pm on Wednesday fire crews were called to a job at Kogan Condamine Rd, Montrose battling the blaze well into the night.

It was reported that crews had left the scene at about 3am Thursday morning, leaving the fire to burn within the containment lines and was now fully extinguished.

Meanwhile about 1pm on Wednesday crews also attended a grass fire between Lewington Rd, Webb Rd and Weranga North Rd near Tara.

Ground and aerial crews battled the blaze throughout the day and conducted two hourly checks overnight.

The fire was then contained and the perimeter was blacked out by 2.15am on Thursday.
