MARKETING mogul Damian Morgan is touring the Western Downs, delivering sage advice to small businesses on how to make the most of their advertising initiatives.

Mr Morgan stopped in at BMO Accounting in Dalby for the first of his seminars.

Mr Morgan has been in the business of marketing for the last 15 years, and decided to take it on the road in the last five years.

"I'm very passionate about small businesses,” he said.

"I'm trying to encourage them to promote themselves better.”

The keynote speeches were sparked by Mr Morgan's eye for innovative marketing and his love of storytelling.

"I started out creative writing,” Mr Morgan said.

"Storytelling, from a marketing point of view, is good fun.

"I find telling the story of what problems a business solves for people and doing that in an engaging and entertaining way is just really rewarding work.

"I was drawn to it from the creative side first, but I've learnt a lot about the strategic side and it's important to combine the two.”

Participants were invited to engage in conversation about innovative advertising and marketing strategies from companies like Toyota, Porsche and Mercedes

Benz.

Mr Morgan said he wishes to see more businessmen and women make the most of their marketing abilities, like the companies discussed in the seminars.

"Small business owners like myself are usually very passionate about what they do and are usually very good at what they do,” Mr Morgan said.

"But they're not necessarily that great at telling their story.

"My hope is that we can get some small businesses to take marketing more seriously, and to work on getting a sharper more compelling message out to the market.”

The self-proclaimed "bush boy” is originally from Condamine, and said he always enjoys returning back to his old stomping ground.

With that comes an understanding of small businesses in regional areas, and the struggles they often have to overcome.

"Not enough business owners take enough time to work on their business - they're too busy working in it,” Mr Morgan said.

"Particularly in regional areas, there's probably less opportunity to go and immerse yourself in business strategy because you're too busy doing

what's got to be done every day.”

He has since taken his sessions to Chinchilla, Roma and St George.
