Western Downs families will have the opportunity to pay respects to relatives and loved ones who served in the Australian Armed Forces with the installation of a commemorative bronze plaque this Anzac Day.
To be installed at the Myall Remembrance Park Services Memorial Wall, the plaques will feature the Australian military emblem and can be personalised to include name, rank and service details.
Western Downs Regional Council mayor Andrew Smith said in a press release the bronze plaques served as a reminder of those who served their country and represented the values and beliefs that defined the Western Downs community.
“Council is proud to offer this opportunity for families in the Western Downs to honour their loved ones as a fitting tribute to those who gave so much for our nation,” he said.
“Anzac Day is a time for reflection, and these plaques offer a meaningful way to remember the courage and sacrifice of our local military personnel not just on special days like Anzac Day or Remembrance Day.
“This new initiative allows families to commemorate the life and service of deceased veterans, preserving their legacy for future generations.”
Council are asking applications be in by February 14, 2025, to be ready for Anzac Day.
To be eligible for a memorial plaque, applicants must be a direct relative of a deceased Australian Armed Forces service member and obtain a copy of the letter of approval to use the Service Badge from the Office of Australian War Graves.
