Moonie State School and Chinchilla Christian College top NAPLAN in the Western Downs

NAPLAN results are in, with eight Western Downs schools taking out top 10 spots for year 5 and 9 across the South West region.
The nationwide assessment tests students on a variety of topics including reading, writing, spelling, grammar and numeracy with the scores for all test subjects combined and averages found to determine how each school performed.
In the Western Downs Moonie State School topped the NAPLAN scores for year 5 while Chinchilla Christian College took the top spot for year 9.
Moonie State School placed third across the whole of the South West with a score of 512 while Chinchilla Christian College also placed third scoring 564.8, being narrowly beaten out by St Mary’s School in Goondiwindi and Quilpie State College.
In year 5 Dalby Christian College took the sixth spot with 501.6 while Our Lady of Southern Cross placed eighth with a score of 497.2.
For year 9 Dalby’s Our Lady Of The Southern College placed fourth with 563.2, Dalby Christian College were fifth with 556.6, Jandowae State School were seventh with 533.75 and Dalby State High school were eighth with 532.
Chinchilla Christian College principal Nathan McDonald said he was proud to see his school ranked the top performing in the Western Downs.
“We are pleased with our individual students doing well with their results, every school is on their own journey of improvement and we are really pleased with how we are progressing as a school,” he said.
“We have really caring and dedicated teachers who work with individual students to help them achieve their best.
“It is in every schools interest whether that be a metro or regional school to help their students achieve their potential.”
Mr McDonald said NAPLAN testing was a good way to determine where improvement could be made.
“I’m really proud of seeing our students do well and see where they are educationally,” he said.
“It was good to sit down and go through the scores, there is still improvements there so we will keep pushing them and supporting them in their learning.”
