Wetstern Downs Regional Council is on the hunt for young, energised locals to "Kickstart their Career” .

WESTERN Downs Regional Council is on the hunt for young, energised locals to "Kickstart their Career” as a council trainee or apprentice next year.

Applications are open for next year's intake of apprentices and trainees, with the council offering a further 16 positions across the organisation.

Spokesperson for finance and corporate services Councillor Ian Rasmussen said the council was focused on its diverse and inclusive culture, specifically offering positions for people who identified as having a disability.

"Council offers a wide range of apprenticeships and traineeships, with positions varying from business and information technology to civil construction, mechanical trade, horticulture or even business trainees at our cinemas,” Cr Rasmussen said.

"By providing full-time and flexible opportunities, trainees and apprentices can study while they work and gain invaluable on-the-job experience, with the councilfocusing on supporting our region's youth and under- represented groups to obtain local employment.”

Alicia Streten, 19, joined the council as part of the 2019 Kickstart Your Career Program andsaid the council hadgiven her the confidenceto try new thingsand hone her professional skills.

"I've had really good on-the-job experience with the people around me who have supported and nurtured me throughout my time with council,” Ms Streten said.

Applications are open until 5pm, October 7, with successful applicants to begin in February 2020.
