WHEN Lifeline volunteers Darryl Frizzell, Don Lee and Clive Jackman arrived at the donation containers in Dalby on Monday morning to clear out the bins, they did not expect to see the containers completely trashed.
They arrived at the containers to see the worst mess they say they've seen since they began volunteering.
Clothes, shoes and other debris were strewn across the bitumen and the volunteers were appalled at the state of the containers.
"It's bloody disgusting,” Mr Frizzell said.
"You're working for Lifeline and this gets thrown in front of you. It's not a good feeling at all.”
The volunteers say this is not the first time the containers have been left in a mess, but this week is the worst it's been.
The volunteers believe it comes down to people not being careful when they place the clothes and items in the containers.
What people don't place in the containers, the volunteers are then left to pick up the mess.
"Instead of putting the stuff in the bins in bags, they throw it in loosely,”Mr Jackman said.
"Lifeline's then got to provide the plastic bags, and we do it a lot ourselves. We spend more time picking the loose clothing up and bagging it before we can take it inside.”
Not only have the containers been trashed, but the items sent to the containers are often filthy and unusable, according to the volunteers.
"A lot of the stuff should be sent to the dump,” Mr Frizzell said.
"So people use us as a dump.”
"The filth of some of the stuff that comes in has to be seen to be believed,” Mr Jackman said.
The volunteers are hoping this will open people's eyes to what the volunteers have to go through each day.
"We just want the public to see what that small group keep doing to us,” Mr Frizzell said.
As for who the culprits are, they may never know. But the volunteers are urging people to stop their dumping.
