FRIENDS and family of Kev Khazen came together today to say farewell to the Dalby legend. Khazen's funeral was held at St Jospeh's Catholic Church at 10.30 this morning. Celebrated by Fr John Maher, the service paid tribute to the fulfilling life Kev lead for 84 years.

The service opened with the song 'You Raise Me Up' by Tommy Fleming. Words of remembrance were delivered by Kev's children Danny, Sadie, and Rose. Three of Kev's grandchildren Holly, Abby and Sophie also spoke during the service. The family shared stories of the times they had shared with Kev, or "Grumpy” as he was known by his grandchildren.

Kev's daughter Rose thanked her mother Margaret for caring so well for Kev. She spoke of the relatioship that Kev and Margaret shared, and said that Margaret was the "wind beneath his wings”.

She also shared stories about Kev's cheeky personality.

"He was a ratbag, but he was our ratbag,” Rose said.

"Mum's husband, our dad, and Grumpy, will forever live on in our hearts.”

The cortege travelled down Cunningham St where Kev's menswear store used to be. People who knew Kev lined the streets as the hearse drove past to send off their friend for the final time.
