WAMINDA residents got a special visitor on Wednesday when Leading Constable Dan O'Hara, from Dalby Police, hosted a morning tea.

The event was held as part of World Mental Health Day, and Constable O'Hara said police took the mental illness within the community very seriously.

"The fact is that quite often a lot of offences and also problems within the community probably can have a birthplace based in poor mental health; that's where a lot of problems can stem from poor mental health,” Constable O'Hara said.

"If we can increase the quality of people's mental health in the community, it will also prevent repeat calls for service by the police.”

Constable O'Hara was welcomed at the Dalby facility when he arrived with cake for attendees, and said he always enjoyed visiting.

"Dalby police work closely with the people of Waminda ... and we like to call on them here on a relatively regular basis and have a chat with them,” he said.

"It's one of our favourite places to come because we know we are always welcome.”
