A dairy farmer and former Oakey resident has traded in the work boots for active wear as she approaches the opening date of Dalby fitness studio, Evergreen pilates.

Kristen Ehrlich who moved to a farm in Kulpi more than 10 years ago, began her instructing journey after being inspired by one of her own pilates teachers while living in Toowoomba.

“I got married and moved to a farm which was a very big adjustment,” she said.

“I decided I wanted to do something for myself, (and) it would be great to learn how to instruct so 10 years ago I did a pilates instructor course and qualified to begin teaching classes.”

She started teaching the women from the Kulpi community, which helped strengthen her connection with the locals.

“It really helped me to settle into my new home and gave me an interest away from the farm,” she said.

The mother to three boys said pilates has been a way to help her get through the different seasons of life, which is how she came up with the business name, Evergreen pilates.

“Dairy farming is a very intense lifestyle, it’s seven days a week,” she said.

“I still help out on the farm but pilates is my passion.

“I can understand the agricultural pressure on women, and I’ve been the young corporate girl around town so I feel I’m quite relatable and try to make my classes relatable as well.”

The opening of the brand new Dalby studio has been a long-time goal for Mrs Ehrlich and has been in the pipeline for 18 months to two years.

“I felt the opportunity was there in Dalby, there’s a lot of excitement and I’ve received a lot of messages,” she said.

“I’m just hoping it’s something else people can do to support their lifestyle and wellness.

“I’m very passionate about living your best life.”

Mrs Ehrlich said classes would be suitable for men and women of all fitness levels and ages, however will include pregnancy and significant injury restrictions.

Seven classes starting from 5am will be available on Mondays, and a booking system will be open for residents before opening day.

Evergreen pilates will be located at 133 Cunningham St, Dalby and is expected to open February 6, 2023.
