Weeks of rigorous voting and polling resulted in one business being crowned the best cafe in Dalby.

Urban Paddock, located at 138 Cunningham St, was voted by our readers as the best place to pick up a hot coffee, and chow down on a delicious plate of bacon and eggs.

Opening in 2017, the popular establishment operates out of an iconic Queenslander which has stood for more than 100 years.

Owner Melissa Harms said it was “very nice” to know that the wider Dalby community thought they were the best cafe in the area.

“I think our customers enjoy the good food and coffee, as well as it being a very family friendly place,” Mrs Harms said.

“They also enjoy the atmosphere with our big backyard as well.”

The Urban Paddock was nominated in the Best Breakfast and Best Cafe Dining categories in 2020 for its stellar efforts in the past 12 months, with their chef Caleb McKinnon also being nominated for Queensland Chef of the year.

Mr McKinnon’s prowess in the kitchen has led to a menu being created, which will begin in February.

Mrs Harms wanted to thank the community for supporting the Urban Paddock throughout 2020, as well as selecting it as the best cafe in the district.

“Hopefully 2021 is a better year after Covid,” she said.

“Onwards and upwards.”

Celebrity chef Matt Preston said the search for the best cafe was just the start of the “Delicious Local” push to help drive a food led rebound from the effects of Covid.

“It's clear from the vast number of nominations and votes we saw come in that local communities are rallying around their favourite eateries; supporting those food businesses who have done it tough over the past 12 months,” he said.

“That is exactly what we set out to achieve.

“And this is just the beginning, our local cafe winners are soon to appear in a statewide battle of the postcodes where the cream will rise to the top – as it always does!

“Don‘t forget to have your say by checking out your state finalists and voting for your favourite.”
