WESTERN Downs residents will be allowed to travel up to 150km from their homes from this Saturday.
Here is a list of things you can do 150km from Dalby:
1. Explore the Western Downs
Almost all of our region is accessible within 150km from Dalby so take a drive around and see what the Western Downs has to offer!
2. Visit Chinchilla's Botanic Parkland
Chinchilla's beautiful parkland and water park will be one year old on June 1. You'll now be able to make the occasion if you're in Dalby.
3. Take a look at the Big Melon
You'll see it on your left as you're coming in to Chinchilla. Pull over and take some pictures!
4. Have a picnic at Lake Broadwater
Lake Broadwater is still open for visitors. Although barbecues, toilets and boat ramps are not available, you can still enjoy the open atmosphere and exotic birds.
5. Play some golf
Come and visit one of the many golf clubs that are available within 150km.
6. Visit Thomas Jack Park
If you don't want to travel out of town, Thomas Jack Park is always a great go-to.
7. Go for a canoe
Since restrictions on boating were lifted a couple of weeks ago, you can go for a paddle up any of the many creeks and waterways in the area.
8. Take a drive to Jandowae
Take a look at the serene town at the beginning of Australia's extraordinarily long dingo fence.
9. Visit the Chinchilla Weir
Have a picnic or go for a fish.
10. Have a look at Myall 107
Libraries will be open from next week, but cinemas will remain closed. Also take a look at Dalby's art gallery.
11. Go for a four-wheel drive
Take a drive up the bumpy back roads and see where they take you.
12. Visit Dogwood Crossing
The public art gallery at Miles has plenty of great works to show with some new exciting things to come!
13. Walk along Myall Creek
Have a walk (or ride) along the Myall Creek Parklands Walkway.
14. Walk along Charley's Creek
If you're in Chinchilla, take a walk along Charley's Creek.
15. Walk along Dogwood Creek
Take a walk across Miles from Chinaman's Lagoon to the other side of the Warrego Highway along Dogwood Creek.
16. Explore Barakula State Forest
It is the Southern Hemisphere's largest state forest and some of it is accessible within 150km from Dalby.
17. Go for a fish
There are many waterways in the region and even more along the Great Dividing Range. See what you can catch!
18. Go for a drive for the day
You can always head in the car and see where you end up! Just don't wind up in the outback!
19. Visit an ANZAC Memorial
There are plenty of ANZAC Memorials honouring the fallen in the Western Downs, Toowoomba, Lockyer Valley and South Burnett regions.
20. Drop off your bottles
Have you been collecting your containers? Drop them off at a collection centre for 10c each!
21. Take a look at Jimbour House
The large homestead located between Dalby and Jandowae is a great sight to behold and a lovely mark of history. Go check it out!
22. Visit the South Burnett
The region to the north of Dalby is home to plenty of Queensland's finest vineyards and wine producers as well as many great tourist destinations.
23. Drive up to the Bunya Mountains
Now that the Bunyas are firmly in the 'legal area' for Dalby, why not grab a coffee and enjoy the amazing wildlife and views!
24. Visit Nanango
Take a drive up to this nice little town at the corner of the Burnett and D'Aguliar Highways.
25. Spend some time at Maidenwell
Have a look at the historic small town of Maidenwell. Of course, it's always a good time to visit Coomba Falls as well, a natural rocky water hole that's perfect for a picnic.
26. Enjoy the views of the Apex Lookout
Located at the corner of Coral and Fisher Streets in Kingaroy, Apex Lookout is one of the most breathtaking views in the South Burnett! Look over the entire town, the vast plains and vineyards, and towards the Bunya Mountains.
27. Ride along the rail trail
The Kingaroy to Kilkivan is a great path for cyclists or hikers that want to go the extra mile. If you're living in Dalby, you can take the path from Kingaroy up to Wondai before you breach the 150km limit.
28. Take a bite at the Blackbutt Bakery
It is one of Queensland's most famous bakeries for very good reason. Take the drive to try out their tasty pies and yummy snacks!
29. Go stargazing at the Kingaroy Observatory
If you want to see the stars or maybe even Mars, book an appointment and get in your cars!
30. Have a look at the wind farm
The recently completed Coopers Gap Wind Farm is a sight to behold! Take a drive up Niagara Road and see Australia's largest wind farm for yourself!
31. Go to Toowoomba!
It's the moment we've all been waiting for! Dalby residents can now take the trip to the Darling Downs' largest city. Not only that, but virtually everywhere in the Toowoomba urban area falls within 150km from Dalby, so there's plenty to explore!
32. Take a drive along the Toowoomba Bypass
If you haven't been down the range this year, now's your chance to try the new bypass! Jump on at Charlton and see the new Gore Highway up to Athol or the new Warrego along to Helidon Spa. Just be warned there will be a toll if you travel east of Mort Street.
33. Shop at Grand Central
The Darling Downs' largest shopping centre is still open and has plenty of stores to visit.
34. Spend some time at Queen's Park and Botanical Gardens
The Garden City has plenty of beautiful places to offer. Take the family to this large park for a picnic or a (socially distant) game of footy!
35. Enjoy the views at Picnic Point
Look over the entire Lockyer Valley and Tabletop Mountain in Toowoomba's most famous lookout.
36. Take a drive to Highfields
Just north of Toowoomba City, scenic Highfields has plenty of gardens, parks and shops to offer.
37. Walk along East and West Creeks
Both creeks commence in the CBD and have great walking trails through parks, gardens and suburbia. Take the walk along West Creek up to Kearney's Spring or East Creek through Centenary Heights and Middle Ridge.
38. Do some planespotting at the airports
Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport still has some airlines flying in and out of town. Watch the big planes as they fly into the distance! The Toowoomba City Aerodrome in Wilsonton often has smaller aircraft flying in too.
39. Visit Lake Perseverance
Perseverance Dam is still open to visitors during the pandemic. Have a picnic, go for a fish or play some games at this scenic location.
40. Immerse yourself in the Japanese gardens
The Japanese gardens at USQ are the largest in Australia. Take a look at the exotic plants and beautiful scenery.
41. Drive up to Spring Bluff railway station
This historic train station has some nice little gardens and an amazing atmosphere. Located just off of Murphy's Creek Road, Spring Bluff is a great place to visit with the family!
42. Visit Pittsworth
The town of Pittsworth on the Gore Highway has plenty of sights to see. Shop along the vibrant main street or visit some of the scenic parks.
43. Get some chips at Super Rooster
Toowoomba's family owned takeaway joint is a favourite among locals. Pop in and get yourself some of their famous chips.
44. Visit Cambooya and Greenmount
These scenic towns make for a great country drive! Just drive south of Toowoomba along the New England Highway and follow the signs.
45. Spend a day in the Lockyer Valley
There's plenty for Dalby people to explore on the other side of the range. In fact, much of the Lockyer Valley is well within 150km of town!
46. Visit the Lights on the Hill Memorial
Honouring the truckies that have died in their line of work, this well-known memorial is located on the south side of Gatton near Lake Apex.
47. Stop by at Plainland
While Brisbane and the Gold Coast are out of reach, Dalby people can still make their way to Plainland. You can go for the usual Macca's run, go for a shop or just take in the scenery.
48. Take a trip to Helidon
The small town on the Warrego Highway is passed by tens of thousands of people every day, but it's a great place to stop! Visit the local shops or have a picnic by Lockyer Creek at the rest area or just watch the cars go by.
49. Have a look around Gatton
The largest town in the Lockyer Valley has plenty to offer! Go for a walk along Lockyer Creek and support some of the local businesses.
50. Visit Lake Apex
Gatton's large lake is a great place to sit down, have a picnic and watch the birds!
