A shocking video allegedly filmed on the site of the government’s $6.3bn Cross River Rail has emerged, showing a tradie working in a perilous position months before a horrific fall took place this week, leaving a worker in a critical condition.
Posted by the CFMEU on their Facebook page in April, the video was reportedly taken a few months earlier by a worker at the Roma Street end of the job site.
In the post accompanying the video, the CFMEU wrote the video “ may help explain why (construction company) CPB are so keen to keep this job out of the public eye”.
The union also claimed the worker who filmed the video “did complain and was immediately shifted off that site”.
Workers expressed their shock at the seemingly unsafe conditions, with one saying “I thought I was watching a developing country (sic) worksite for a moment”.
Another said “what a joke, I heard it was dodgy over there but this takes the cake”.
A second video (below) posted at the end of May shows the boarding along the Albert Street tunnel rotting away, stagnant water onsite and silica dust present.
The worker who plunged up to 12m from scaffolding at the Boggo Rd station construction site about 1.15pm on Tuesday, has been identified as Nation “Nash” Kouka”, 54.
Cross River Rail construction workers will not return to work until Monday after the horrific fall, with a union boss blasting a state government minister for ‘cheap PR stunts’ in the face of serious safety concerns.
