FRESH information has convinced police that north Queensland man Jay Brogden was murdered more than a decade ago.

Police today said they had reopened the cold case after receiving information in January from new witnesses about his suspected murder.

Homicide detectives will spend the coming months in Airlie Beach as police look to finally solve the cold case that has gripped the region for 12 years.

Mr Brogden, 21, vanished after a fight with his girlfriend in April 2007.

A coroner concluded in 2015 that he most likely met with foul play and there are multiple persons of interest.

His body has never been found.

Eight Homicide Unit police will travel to Airlie Beach where they will link up with local detectives for the foreseeable future.

Homicide Unit Detective Inspector Damien Hansen said he was “very confident” the crime would be solved.

It comes after a number of people came forward to police in January with fresh, corroborated information about the suspects.

“I am convinced there are other people in the community who have knowledge of this offence,” Det Insp Hansen said.

Police this week erected a Crimestoppers billboard advertising a $250,000 reward for information that leads to information about who killed Mr Brogden.

Mr Brogden was involved in a domestic violence dispute with his partner Patricia Heath days before he vanished.

In a phone call to his mother in February, 2007, Mr Brogden told her he thought someone was going to kill him.

“Mum, you do not understand, these people mean business … people go missing from up there and are never found,” he apparently told his mother, the Daily Mercury reports.

A Crimestoppers billboard was erected this week along the highway at Cannonvale to remind people of Mr Brogden’s case.

A reward of $250,000 and an indemnity is also available.

Those close to him have not given up looking for answers.

Members of Mr Brogden’s family told the Daily Mercury last year hey felt frustrated and let down by what they believe was a “disinterest” from police in solving his suspected death.

During an inquest in early 2015, state coroner Jane Bentley was also critical of how police handled the case after finding even though police suspected Mr Brogden to be dead, his case was not handed to the state coroner until 2011 and had stalled for three years.
