A HOMELESS man who fatally stabbed a man almost half his age with a fishing knife after a drunken brawl over a woman has been found guilty of murder.
Robert John Nott last week pleaded not guilty in the Brisbane Supreme Court to the murder of Nathan Wiseman, 21, on Boxing Day 2015.
He was today found guilty by a jury of the killing.
Nott’s lawyer had told the jury he knifed his victim as an act of “self defence” after a drunken brawl over his “lady friend” — Leanne Berghofer.
Mr Wiseman’s body was found on Ernest St at Tewantin, nearby Noosa, shortly after midnight December 26, four years ago.
The court heard he was stabbed twice with a stainless steel fishing knife — once to the jugular and received a second wound on the left side of his chest, which pierced his heart and lung.
The court heard less than two weeks before the murder, Nott was charged with possessing a knife.
He has previously been convicted of armed robbery with the same-style weapon, the court was told.
The 42-year-old will today be sentenced to life behind bars, the only penalty in Queensland for the crime of murder.
