A BRAZEN would-be thief has been caught on camera allegedly trying to break in to a house on Brisbane’s northside during broad daylight.

He is seen pacing backwards and forwards, peering through holes in the latticework to look inside, and appears to be motion to a second person not seen on the video.

The owners believe the man hurriedly left the property after spotting a sign on the door warning him he was being recorded.

Police have confirmed they are investigating several other recent break-ins in the Ascot area and believe they have identified the man shown in the footage.

Residents are being encouraged to be vigilant with their home security, and make sure all doors and windows are locked even when people are at home.

Home security cameras have also been backed by police, both as a deterrent to stop offenders, and as a means of catching them afterwards, a police spokesman said.
