FORMER developer Craig Gore, who is facing fraud charges, has been refused permission to fly to Sweden tomorrow.

Gore, whose wife and children are in Sweden, today asked a Supreme Court judge to vary his bail conditions so he could leave the country.

Gore has been charged with 12 fraud offences and is due to have a pre-trial hearing, for cross-examination of some Crown witnesses, next Wednesday.

Brisbane District Court Judge Paul Smith asked Gore’s defence counsel how he could fly to Sweden now, referring to travel restrictions because of the global coronavirus pandemic.

His counsel, Mark McCarthy said Gore, an Australian citizen, held Swedish residency and he had consulted with the Department of Home Affairs about his travel plans.

No date has yet been set for Gore’s trial.

The fraud charges relate to Gore allegedly obtaining $800,000 from self-managed superannuation fund investors.

Gore, a former bankrupt businessman, has previously flown to Sweden to be with his family, after being granted a bail variation.

In late 2018, Gore, whose wife is Swedish, was allowed to fly to Stockholm, on the condition that he return by a certain date, to face trial.

A previous trial was adjourned partly because of Gore’s ill health and there have been several adjournments of the case.

Gore was arrested for the fraud offences in 2017; as he was on the way to catch a flight to Sweden.

Judge Smith today refused Gore’s application, preventing him from leaving the country, and said he would publish his reasons later this week
