Police probe fraud complaint against dumped council hopeful

Police are investigating a fraud complaint lodged on Thursday by the LNP against a disendorsed Brisbane City Council candidate.

Police are investigating a fraud complaint lodged on Thursday by the LNP against a disendorsed Brisbane City Council candidate.

Deagon ward candidate Brock Alexander, who only lasted 11 days, was disendorsed by the party on Tuesday over previous inappropriate online comments he had written.

However, it then emerged Mr Alexander has a historical traffic record and ongoing stalking charges before the courts, to which he has pleaded not guilty.

The LNP came under fire for failing to pick up Mr Alexander’s past comments and driving history during its background vetting process.

However, LNP Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner fronted up to questions on Wednesday and laid the blame squarely back on Mr Alexander.

“There were forms and documentation provided that had none of the information that we are talking about on them, and then there were questions asked directly to the former candidate and those questions were not answered truthfully,” Mr Schrinner said.

Also on Wednesday, the LNP then forwarded police certificates to the Queensland Police Service which were given to the party by Mr Alexander during the initial vetting process.

In an email response sighted by The Courier-Mail, the QPS Legal Division said “the documents are fraudulent” and “were not issued to Mr Alexander by the QPS”.

On Wednesday night, the QPS were not actively investigating Mr Alexander regarding any potentially fraudulent documents, the QPS had only provided this advice to the LNP.

However, a QPS spokeswoman has confirmed that an LNP representative made an official fraud complaint to police against Mr Alexander on Thursday.

As of Thursday evening, police were officially investigating the complaint involving the 25-year-old Brighton man, but no charges had been laid.

Mr Alexander has denied providing the LNP with any “police certificates”, as the email between the party and QPS described.

“I haven’t provided them with any sort of police certificates or checks … they don’t make their candidates do their own police checks, that would be self serving,” he said.

“They asked for my traffic history and I sent them that. The only other documents I provided were a credit check, and tax statements from the past five years.”

Mr Alexander maintains he told an LNP staffer about his active criminal charges prior to being endorsed.

“If that memo wasn’t passed on, then it wasn’t passed on,” he said.

“It was their job to do their due diligence, I left it to them to do their due diligence.

“What type of person would run as a council candidate with a major party and not disclose their criminal history?

“I’m considering my legal options, because they’re defaming me.”

Mr Alexander claims he was disendorsed over a three-week-old Google review.

“I wrote a review of the BP service station at Sandgate, I described an incident I had, and I described the owner as ‘foreign’,” he said.

“They said to me that is racist. This has been going on since (Monday), and (on Tuesday) they had a meeting and disendorsed me.

“I didn’t disclose my Google review because I didn’t think calling someone a ‘foreign owner’ was important.

“It’s all very disappointing.”

Facebook screenshots are circulating within political circles showing comments written by an account using the name “Brock Alexander”.

Two comments relate to Bruce and Denise Morcombe and Daniel’s disappearance.

“Why did they send their 12yo son on his own to the shops? On the side of a busy highway. Worst parents,” one comment read.

“Daniel never came home because his parents allowed a 13yo child on the side of a highway,” another said.

Mr Alexander denies writing any of them.
