Don't miss out on the headlines from QLD Council Elections. Followed categories will be added to My News.
THE race is on with big fields chasing a seat at the table to guide the greater Sunshine Coast region during the next four years.
In Noosa 20 nominations have been received to fill five councillor positions with incumbent Tony Wellington challenged by Clare Stewart in his bid for a second term as mayor.
At the noon Electoral Commission of Queensland close of nominations for Sunshine Coast Council today Chris Thompson, Don Innes and Michael Burgess had all challenged for the mayoralty where Local Government Association of Queensland president Mark Jamieson was back to attempt to secure a third, four-year term.
He was being challenged by his former deputy Chris Thompson - who did not recontest his Division 4 position in 2016 - Don Innes and Michael Burgess.
The departure of long-serving councillors Tim Dwyer (Division 2), Jenny McKay (Division 5), Greg Rogerson (Division 10) and two-term councillor Steve Robinson (Division 9) will guarantee a new-look line up.
Sitting councillors Rick Baberowski (Division 1), Peter Cox (Division 3), John Connolly (Division 4), Christian Dickson (Division 6), Ted Hungerford (Division 7) and Jason O'Pray (Division 8) are all looking to return for another term.
All face challenges to their position while nine candidates have been attracted to the vacant Division 5 and seven to Division 10.
Power cuts homes, but no rain damage

The Electoral Commission Queensland will today conduct random draws to determine ballot paper positions for mayor and for councillors in each division in the case of Sunshine Coast Council.
Ratepayers in Noosa, whose total voting population was about double that of Sunshine Coast Council's Division 4, will select six councillor positions as well as the mayor.
One-term councillor Ingrid Jackson won't recontest with councillors Joe Jurisevic, Deputy Mayor Frank Wilkie, Jess Glasgow and Brian Stockwell all seeking another term.
Former councillor Frank Pardon lost his seat after being convicted and imprisoned for historical sex offences.
