SPORT is such a large part of Australian life and finally we can stretch our legs and play again, with Stage 3 restrictions coming into effect from Friday.

It’s a big win for community sport, but what does it exactly mean?

OUTDOOR SPORTS

Sport, recreation and fitness organisations who follow a COVID Safe Industry Plan can resume on-field training and games.

That means training and playing contact sports are permitted.

Inter-school and representative sport has also been given the green light.

Spectators will be able to watch outdoor sporting games as long as they are social distancing.

Junior Aussie rules Club Mayne Tigers President Kel Donovan said the kids are itching to get on the field on July 11 with Auskick also returning.

“The kids are excited, they’ve got their new footy jumpers and training kit … because we’re a junior footy club it’s great to be able to have the parents involved,” Mr Donovan said.

“The social side for the kids is pretty important and this will give them another Ave to burn some energy with their mates and take some pressure of their parents for a while.

It’s also important financially for the club with sponsors staying on board with games resuming.

“The Tiges will have a good year this year our participation numbers are up on what they have been and we’ve been able to maintain that,” he said.

Games like lawn bowls are waiting for approval from the Queensland Government to resume.

A statement from Bowls Queensland read: “Amendments to the Outdoor Team Sport Industry COVID Safe Plan were submitted to the QLD Government last week and are now awaiting approval from the CHO.

“Bowls Queensland will provide an update once approval of the amended Outdoor Team Sport Industry COVID Safe Plan has been signed off.

“Clubs Queensland are also waiting for the amended QLD Hotels and Club Industry COVID Safe Plan to be approved.”

Lawn bowlers will be able to resume when the COVID plan has been signed off by the Queensland Government.

New Farm Bowls Club manager Teuila Jones says the excitement is building every day as they get ready to reopen the bowling green.

“We’ve had a lot phone calls and emails saying can we come down tonight or tomorrow so from the 12th people can come back, it’s very exciting,” Ms Jones said.

“Everybody is waiting for it, even staff like we can’t wait. It’s a really good community at this club – people are waiting.”

INDOOR SPORTS

The resumption of indoor sports will also be welcomed back on July 3.

Indoor sport will be permitted and as long as there is only one person per 4sq m spectators will be able to watch.

GYMS, POOLS, HEALTH CENTRES

Further restrictions will ease with outdoor gyms and equipment permitted to operate with up to 100 people.

Indoor gyms, studios and health centres are permitted to open with up to 100 people, with 4sq m per person when indoors.

Indoor personal training is also allowed with one person per 4sq m.

Gyms will be open to more people from midday tomorrow.

Outdoor gyms, health clubs, yoga studios are also allowed to operate with 100 people.

Aran Hayes from F45 in Fortitude Valley says the gym will have full classes of 36 again with people keen to get rid of the iso-weight.

“The fact that Queensland has done so well has helped us out. I think at the start they said six months and I don’t think we would’ve survived that,” Mr Hayes said.

“We can go back to normal sizes but then it’s just the finer details … It’s going to be good. We have had a lot of wait lists so it will be great to let the others in.”
