Brisbane residents disgusted after man defecates near footpath

Residents of a Moreton Bay suburb have expressed their disgust and the need for a council to install public toilets after a man was caught on security cameras defecating in near a footpath.

“To the animal that just had a dump beside the footpath and used the creek water to wipe his bottom. Dog walker’s pic up their dog’s mess,” David Fuller wrote in a Facebook community group.

“You, sir come back and pick up yours. You’re the third grub to do this in a kids playground.

“My video cameras caught you out … there’s doggy bags here next time use one and take it away.”

Mr Fuller, 48, said he had stepped outside his Griffin home for a smoke about 6.45am Sunday when he spotted a man squatting on the verge of the Vermillion Ave bush reserve next to a footpath, in full view of dog walkers, motorists and neighbour’s across the road.

At first, he said, he thought the man was looking at guppies in the creek.

“Then he started to bob up and down, so I thought ‘what’s going on here.’

“I had my phone on me and zoomed right in and have then gone ‘Are you kidding me?’ and took a snap.”

The truck driver said when he later went through his home security cameras, he discovered the man had first been facing towards the road, before moving a few steps away and continuing, this time with his back to the road.

“He was trying to wash his bottom in the putrid creek,” he said.

Other residents replied that they had seen similar conduct, though they did not say it was the same person.

“I’ve also seen this a couple of times in the long grass near the power lines,” one lady wrote.

“Just disgusting, definitely not the done thing in our suburb or anywhere in fact. Grubs.”

Other commenters pointed out the man could have a medical issue.

“He definitely shouldn’t have done this, but you never know if someone has any medical issue or anything,” one man wrote.

“It’s nature. If you gotta go you gotta go (sic).

“Now my question is, what would someone do if someone have to do it and there (are) no toilets around?

“There is definitely a need of public toilets in the parks and around Moreton Bay.”

Mr Fuller agreed.

“The amount of kids and people that go there every day, seven days a week, they should have (public toilets),” he said.

He said he posted the now-deleted photo as a warning to other residents.

“It’s disgusting and I’m disappointed it happened in our community,” he said.

“It’s a busy and kid friendly area.

“We’ve also got koala nears in the area and all parents come along and point out the koalas to the kids.”

A Moreton Regional Council spokesman said toilet amenities were provided in “district level” parks.

He said the Vermillion Ave park not having a toilet block was no excuse for such behaviour and encouraged witnesses to report the offence to Policelink on 13 14 44.

“The fine for disorderly or offensive public behaviour is up to $300,” he said.

“Police also have ‘move on’ powers they can use to remove people from public spaces.”

In Far North Queensland, a Townsville business owner is still trying to identify a man photographed a man defecating outside of his business yesterday.
