Clive Palmer to give evidence at public hearing relating to fall of Queensland Nickel

CLIVE Palmer will be forced to give evidence on Monday at a public examination relating to the fall of his former company Queensland Nickel.

CLIVE Palmer will be forced to give evidence on Monday at a public examination relating to the fall of his former company, Queensland Nickel, after he failed in a last-minute appeal this afternoon.

Mr Palmer has tried on multiple occasions to delay giving evidence at the examination in the Federal Court, which is being conducted by special purpose liquidators trying to claw back almost $70 million in taxpayer funds paid to former QN employees.

Today, Mr Palmer asked for leave to appeal a decision handed down on Monday ordering him to give evidence.

His barrister, Nick Ferrett, said the appeal would be on the grounds it was unconstitutional, an abuse of process and procedural unfairness.

But Judge Nye Perram SC dismissed the application.

The public examination starts in the Federal Court in Brisbane on Monday, and the court was told Mr Palmer would have to appear.

The examination hearings are expected to run for two weeks.
