A widow has spoken of how she and her family were left “broken” when father Collin Young was killed in an alleged hit and run north of Brisbane’s a month ago today.

Mr Young, 45, was a father of four, a well-known member of the trucking community, he had an infectious personality, was a people gatherer and was “simply amazing”.

He died when he was struck by a vehicle while walking near the intersection of Porter and Beerburrum roads, Caboolture, about 7am on June 12.

Isiah O’Shenessy Reiman, of Aspley, has been charged with his manslaughter.

Mr Young and wife Claire were together for years, but they were married for just two months before his death.

They were soulmates, inseparable and deep in love, but since Collin’s passing, life has been “utter hell” for Ms Young.

“It’s the darkest and saddest moment of our family and friends’ lives to date.”

“Not a day goes by where I don’t cry for Collin, he was my absolute everything, my soulmate, the two of us were inseparable, and he was my partner in crime.”

She said she would forever be thankful she knew him for the time she did.

“Collin was my person, my heart in human form.

“Not a day went by that he wouldn’t tell me how much he loved me, he adored me and our girls, he loved my girls as his own and although he was not blood to my girls, he never ever treated them differently,” Ms Young said.

“He loved life and had lots more life to live and love to give to everyone that met him, he was simply amazing.”

Collin’s sister Katrina said he was the best big brother and would do anything for anyone, a statement echoed by all who knew him.

“He loved life, he loved his family, I have had so many phone calls from friends, family and work colleagues that are absolutely shattered …,” she said.

“We as a family are broken. He was our rock, I love him I miss him. Our brother did not deserve this.”

A Facebook memorial group was made after Collin passed away and has had more than 600 members join, sharing their favourite memories, moments and tributes of Mr Young.

Ms Young said she will never forget Collin or his legacy.

“If the day I walked down the aisle to Collin, someone had told me that this would happen and he would be taken from us all, I would still have walked down that aisle and then kept him under lock and key safe with me,” Ms Young said.

“I always said I would dream with him and walk beside him in whatever our lives may bring, I will continue to do so as I know in my heart, he would never leave my side.

“I keep talking to Collin and asking him how do you mend a broken heart? I think for me for now I have my memories, heaps, and heaps of amazing moments in time, photos, videos.

“Although he has been taken from us, I will continue to live my life the way he would’ve wanted, not only for me but for our incredible family and the CJA Logistics legacy he worked so very hard for and has left behind.

“He was simply amazing.”
