One of the two men killed in separate horror motorcycle crashes on the M1 in the last week is being remembered as a much-loved brother, uncle, godfather, friend and practical joker.

Chris McDermott, 66, died last Wednesday when his motorbike and another vehicle collided near Exit 71 at Nerang, causing him to come off his bike and into the path of a truck.

Paramedics tried frantically to revive him but he died at the scene in an accident that caused peak-hour mayhem on the motorway.

Dozens of family members and friends have taken to social media to pay tribute to Mr McDermott, who lived at Carrara.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, Peter McDermott said Chris was his uncle, godfather ‘and best mate’.

“You were alway there for your family and friends and me, even when you were having a hard time yourself,” Peter wrote.

“I always loved when you came to visit us, or I would come and spend time with you and go fishing or just sit around (and) have a chat.

“You are going to be deeply missed but never forgotten. Love you to the moon and back. Rip Uncle Chris, fly high with the angels in the sky to meet again one day.”

Family members shared happy memories of Mr McDermott, with one remembering how he used to “scare the crap” out of his sisters, nephews and nieces by jumping from a bedroom while wearing a gorilla mask.

‘’We all s--t ourselves but always had a good laugh,’’ she wrote.

“Uncle Chris you are one of a kind and loved and cherished by all family, friends and people you meet. Rest now with nan and pa.”

Another friend wrote: “He was so loved & respected. The world won’t be the same without him.”

Another motorcyclist, a 61-year-old from Oxenford, was killed in an M1 crash near his home on Sunday.
