A VICIOUS dog attack on a young mother and her one-year-old in Chinchilla has sparked calls for pet owners to be more vigilant.
The mother, who asked us not to use their name, was pushing her son in a pram down Wheeler Street on Saturday at 4.30pm when she was approached by two dogs.
One of the dogs leered at her and bit her on the back of her leg which caused bruising.
"I was very, very frightened and I started crying," she said.
"It should never have happened."
"You should feel safe walking down the street."
The mother said she could see the owner of the two dogs was sitting out the front of her yard when the incident occurred and came out to see what was going on.
The owner claimed that the dogs' chains snapped.
The mother said she confronted the owner about the vicious dogs but said the owner tried to keep changing the conversation.
"She was trying to make me feel uncomfortable," the mother said.
"She just changed the conversation by picking on me.
The concerned mother said she contacted Western Downs Regional Council about the incident.
The husband of the woman said he wanted to raise awareness about vicious dogs roaming around Chinchilla's streets.
"The owners obviously don't care," he said.
"I've got dogs too and I don't let them roam around the front."
"It's a pretty scary thing to happen."
The dogs have since been seen roaming around the front of the home on Wheeler Street.
The woman did not suffer severe injuries but said she required a tetanus shot.
"I won't be going down that street ever again," she said.
The Western Downs Regional Council has been contacted for comment.
