Weather didn't dampen street party joy

The 2018 Chinchilla Christmas street party was a hoot and a half, with some decent rainfall thrown in for good measure.

LAST night's Chinchilla Community Commerce and Industry Inc Christmas street party went off without a hitch, despite competing with a moderate measure of rainfall and some strong wind gusts.

Mr and Mrs Claus made their grand entrance just after 5pm to the delight of dozens of local boys and girls.

The weather forecast didn't deter Chinchilla businesses from making the most of the evening, which saw Heeney St closed off to make way for late night shopping.

The 2018 Town Proud Buy Local winner was announced just as the rain really started to come down, forcing everyone to huddle under the shop fronts for cover.

Ray Wessling, from Jackson's Parts N Industrial Supplies, was announced the winner of the $5000 voucher to be spent in store at Chinchilla's Betta Home Living.

When asked what he planned to purchase with his winnings, Mr Wessling said he wasn't yet sure, but he would definitely be consulting his wife.

This year's Town Proud Buy Local efforts have been particularly successful, yet again delivering hundreds of thousands of dollars into the town's economy.

"We received over 23,000 entries this year,” Commerce manager Robyn Haig said.

"This year's Town Proud Buy Local has injected over $400,000 worth of business into the community, so we're slightly up on figures from last year.”
