Search for missing man suspended as police provide update

Police have provided a devastating update on the search and rescue mission for a missing Chinchilla man.

Police have confirmed the search for a missing Chinchilla man has been scaled back after his abandoned vehicle and trailer was found.

A search and rescue for Sidney Clark was initiated after his trailer was found with a shredded tyre on May 30.

The trailer was found on Chinchilla Wondai Road, near Durong.

A day later, Mr Clark’s silver Jeep Cherokee which he was seen driving days prior in the Chinchilla CBD, was found of the side of Stockyard Road, in Barakula.

Acting Inspector Gregory Wheeler said after extensive land based and aerial searches failed to locate the 79-year-old man, the rescue mission has now been put on hold.

These searches efforts were conducted by QPS, SES, Rural Fire Services, landholders and National Parks and Wildlife employees.

“Despite our best efforts, we have been unable to locate Sidney,” the Acting Inspector said.

“We have utilised all resources available to us in this area and thank each and every person who assisted and provided support during this search.

“We have liaised closely with Sidney’s loved ones and discussed the sad news regarding the likelihood of his survival and the progress of the search undertaken to date.”

Despite the rescue mission being suspended in the area, the Acting Inspector said police were still appealing to members of the Chinchilla and Barakula communities to assist with the investigation.

He said some local strategies were still in place to find Mr Clark.

Mr Clark was last seen driving his Jeep on the afternoon of May 29 in Chinchilla and was reported missing soon after.

Police previously revealed the Chinchilla man had a medical condition which could cause confusion and disorientation, leading to concerns for his welfare.

Mr Clark is described as being caucasian, approximately 170cm tall and having a proportionate build.

He also has grey, short hair and a grey beard.
