Sandra Louise Griffiths in Chinchilla court for stealing cartons of alcohol from Queensland Hotel Miles

With her kids in tow, a former aged care worker thought it would be a bright idea to steal a carton of Bundy and Woodstock from a local business in Miles on the Western Downs.

A Miles mum keen on Friday night drinks decided to take her two children on a trip to the pub where she stole not one, but two cartons of alcohol.

Chinchilla Magistrates Court heard Sandra Louise Griffiths stole cartons of Bundaberg Rum and Woodstock from the drive-through of the The Queensland Hotel, costing the local business $180.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Chris Hutchins said CCTV footage from the pub clearly caught the 37-year-old in the act on Friday, July 30.

Lawyer Claire Graham told the court Griffiths had four children aged between 11 and 18, although only her 11 and 15-year-old were living with her.

Ms Graham said the former aged care worker suffered from depression, anxiety, and PTSD and was taking medication to help.

“She doesn’t provide any excuses or explanation for her actions although said it was a stupid decision,” Ms Graham said.

Magistrate Kerri O’Callaghan noted the unemployed mother had no criminal history and had been under financial pressure at the time of the crime.

After Griffiths pleaded guilty to stealing, she was placed on a three-month good behaviour order, fined $500, and ordered to pay $180 in restitution.

No conviction was recorded.
