A drunken Chinchilla man looking for his sister found trouble with police and security after he punched a pub patron in the face.

Ryan Ja Lette pleaded guilty in Chinchilla Magistrates Court to public nuisance.

Police prosecutor Chris Hutchins said on June 4 at about 2.30am police were called to a disturbance at the Club Hotel Chinchilla.

The court was told Lette had already been detained on the ground by security in front of the premises when police arrived.

“It was observed the male had blood coming from his hand, there was blood on his person,” Mr Hutchins said.

“He appeared to be heavily intoxicated, yelling abuse. He continued to swear at police and security.

“He had been drinking at the location and only arrived a short time earlier, in a heavily intoxicated state he walked to the verandah, almost immediately punching a patron of Fijian descent in the face without warning or an exchange of words.

“He was aggressive, yelling abuse at other patrons and security, being difficult.

“When advised he had to leave, the defendant continued to be aggressive, shaping up to security on a number of occasions.”

The court was told security removed the defendant from the premises and called for police to attend.

“I think your honour’s got enough of the facts, it goes on but effectively he got into a fight with security and he lost,” Mr Hutchins said.

Defence lawyer Brad Skuse admitted his client had been drinking at another location before arriving at the premises.

“He resides with his sister, when he got home his sister wasn’t home so he attempted to make contact just to see how she was and when she would be getting home,” Mr Skuse said.

“A male answered the phone and indicated that he was having some sexual interactions with his sister and what was conveyed to my client caused some concern.

“He then went down to town to locate her.

“He was walking past the Club Hotel when she called out.

“He went up to the verandah, his instructions were he was grabbed by the jumper and overreacted in the circumstances.”

Acting magistrate Gary Finger acknowledged Lette has no criminal history and used his discretion to not record a conviction.

Lette was fined $700 which was referred to SPER.
