A 20-year-old mother who moved back to Miles to restart her life after getting caught up with the law has fronted court.

Chloe Beth Adams pleaded guilty in Chinchilla Magistrates Court to theft, drug driving, driving unlicensed and obstructing police.

On October 15 last year, police were alerted by witnesses who saw a white Toyota Corolla driving along Maud St, Caloundra with a male lying on the bonnet, the court was told.

Police prosecutor Chris Hutchins said police stopped Adams, who was driving the vehicle, and submitted to a roadside drug test.

However, when the test came back positive and police realised she didn’t have a relevant licence, Adams fled on foot leading to a police chase, the court was told.

“She was warned continually that she was obstructing police by the officers before arresting her near a school playground,” Sergeant Hutchins said.

About a week earlier on October 7, 2022 Adams was caught by police in Yandina driving unlicensed again.

The court was told Adams was later spotted stealing $77.80 worth of fuel from the BP RoadHouse Miles and driving unlicensed on Murilla St on January 22, 2023.

Defence lawyer Brad Skuse said his client was suffering from a domestically violent relationship while she was living on the Sunshine Coast.

“She has a four and a half-year-old son that was in the care of her mother but now she’s moved back to her mother’s house in Miles and is resuming care of her son,” Mr Skuse said.

Despite a previous trespassing conviction, Adams said she was ready to stop offending and focus on looking after her son in her hometown.

“I hope now that you’re back with your mother and your son you will make better decisions and you won’t be forced into decisions that warrant you back before the courts,” magistrate Kyna Morice said.

Adams was handed a $1200 fine for all offences and a minimum four month driving disqualification. She was ordered to pay $77.80 in restitution to the BP RoadHouse Miles. All convictions were recorded.
