FORENSIC investigators spent much of Tuesday excavating the backyard of a home in Chinchilla in relation to a child protection matter.

Police maintained a presence overnight and appear to be excavating more areas of the backyard today, Wednesday December 4.

Officers from the State Crime Command, who investigate serious offences including homicide, child and sexual abuse and organised crime gangs, were today leading the investigation at a Chinchilla backyard.

Detectives first arrived on the scene on Tuesday morning before cordoning off the property with police tape and bringing police dogs to search the home and yard.

Plain clothed and uniform officers were observed to be photographing small objects that had been found in the dirt before placing them in evidence bags.
