THE Origin of Gas tours have resumed, providing a popular attraction for visitors to the Surat Basin region and for locals - a chance to see how Origin operates the upstream facilities of Australia Pacific LNG for export and domestic gas production.

Australia Pacific LNG provided around 30 per cent of gas supply to the east coast market last year and has been a net contributor to the domestic market every year since it was formed in 2008.

The tours are hosted by local Origin staff on the first Thursday of each month, and will be alternating between the Condabri Central and Talinga sites, near Miles and Chinchilla.

Origin's General Manager for the Condabri, Talinga and Orana Assets, Alex Kennedy-Clark, said visitors will get to have an up close and personal encounter with the Condabri Central and Talinga Gas Processing Facilities and Water Treatment Plants, allowing them to gain a better understanding of the gas industry.

"Visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about our project, ask questions about the local gas industry and get a close up look at a gas well," Ms Kennedy-Clark said.

"It's a chance for tourists and locals to talk with our staff and learn more about the industry within the Western Downs community," she said.

Pick-up and drop-off points for those joining the mini-bus tours are the Miles Visitor Information Centre and Chinchilla Botanic Parklands (Canaga St).

Each tour runs for about 3-4 hours, bookings can be made by calling the Miles Visitor Information Centre on 46271492. The next tour visits the Talinga facility on July 4.
