More changes expected for drivers on Warrego Highway

MOTORISTS travelling the Warrego Highway between Miles and Dalby should expect changed traffic conditions as construction on seven overtaking lanes continues.

The new overtaking lanes are being built in four locations, including between Chinchilla and Miles, a site west of Macalister and west of Dalby from mid-July.

Works on the project began in January.

From 6am-6pm weekdays, speeds will be reduced to 60km/h hour and 80km/h outside of those times, though there are a number of intermittent night works scheduled during construction.

Motorists can expect short periods where the highway will be reduced to one lane under traffic lights.

From mid-July until mid-August, full road width culvert crossings will be constructed at the site east of Miles, where works are expected to be undertaken for about two weeks at a time.

The speed limit will be reduced to 40km/h during the day, with traffic in both east and westbound directions travelling on one lane under traffic management. At night speed will be returned to 80km/h hour with two lanes in operation.

Emergency services will have full access through the site, however wide and oversized vehicles have been advised to call ahead to the site on 0412 394 027 to ensure access is available.

The Dalby to Miles Overtaking Lanes project is one of 15 approved projects included in the Warrego Highway Upgrade Program (WHUP), designed to upgrade the Warrego Highway between Toowoomba and Miles.
