Fire breaks out south of Chinchilla

Update (6:55pm): Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) crews are currently monitoring and patrolling a vegetation fire near Robbos Road and Wieambilla Road, Wieambilla.

The QFES announcement said the fire is contained and posing no threat to property at this time.

Smoke may affect the area through the night. If affected, the update said residents are asked to close windows and doors.

Those suffering from a respiratory condition should keep their medications close by.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution and to conditions.

If residents are concerned their property is under threat they are advised to call Triple Zero (000) immediately, the announcement said.

Earlier (3.50pm): Queensland Fire and Emergency Services have upgraded its warning of a vegetation fire burning at Wieambilla, north of Tara.

Those in the area need to keep up-to-date and decide what actions they will take if the situation changes, the QFES warning said.

The announcement said the fire was travelling in a northeasterly direction from Robbos Rd towards Wieambilla Rd, Wieambilla. 

Fire crews are working to contain the blaze by constructing firebreaks and undertaking structural protection as required.

People in the area will be affected by smoke, which will reduce their visibility and air quality, the warning said.

They should call Triple Zero (000) immediately if they believe they or their property is under threat.

The warning listed actions for those in the area:

-Listen to your local radio station or visit the Rural Fire Service website for regular updates.

-If you have a bushfire survival plan, refer to it and be ready to follow it.

-If you do not have a bushfire survival plan, or if your plan is to leave, identify where you will go if the situation changes.

-Close windows and doors to minimise smoke exposure.

-If you suffer from a respiratory condition, keep medication close by.

-Drive with caution in low visibility.

-Contact neighbours to see if they need help preparing for the bushfire.

-Consider finding essential items (eg, identification documents, prescription medication, food and water and protective clothing such as a long-sleeved cotton shirt and trousers, and boots) in case you need to leave.

-Consider what you will do to protect pets and livestock.

-Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.

-Advise family and friends of your intended actions if the situation changes.

The fire broke out about 10.30am and is posing no threat to property at this time.

Crews are working to contain the fire.

In a release QFES said smoke may affect the area, so residents should close their windows and doors and keep their medications close by if they suffer from a respiratory condition.
