The epic Tara school fete will make its highly-anticipated return this weekend after not being held in the small country town for 20 years.
Tara Shire State College P&C committee president Rebecca Glover said since she took on the role last year she’s been keen to get the beloved event back up and running.
“When the new (P&C board) came through we were all on board,” she said.
“We only started (preparation) in September last year.”
Mrs Glover said the event hadn’t been held in past years due to Covid-19 as well as previous board members not agreeing to host the event.
“I think it was just the work,” she said.
“It’s a lot of work to organise it, and obviously Covid played a big part.”
Mrs Glover said the goal of the event was to bring excitement to town and help reconnect locals with one another.
“We’re hoping it brings (the community) back together,” she said.
“It’s a cheap family day out. Most people have been so supportive, they can’t wait because they haven’t had one for so long.”
“There’s some people who work at our school, who are teachers or work at the office and their kids used to attend the school and never had a fete,” Mrs Glover said.
“They love that they get to go.”
The school fete will be held at Tara Shire State College on Saturday, May 27 from 12pm to 5pm will include a range of rides for children, live music, a bar, games, show bags and market stalls provided by local businesses.
Adults’ entry (18+) is $10.
