Buckle up for a bumper bush carnival this weekend

Bullock rides, billy boil race and the famous Mintie drop are back and bigger than ever!

GREG Olm can still recall memories from his first Brigalow Bush Carnival as a 12-year-old boy, holding on tight to a spirited poddy calf as he galloped across the paddock.

"I didn't know how to get off so I just clung to him until he throw me off into some bushes,” he said.

Like many children from around the region, both Mr Olm and Greg Dalgleish have some wonderful memories from their days as youngsters at the Brigalow Bush Carnival.

With nearly six decades under its belt, the event is becoming more popular but still hasn't failed to lose its small town charm with many of the events and activities exactly as they were 59 years ago.

Tomorrow's beloved bush carnival is back and is going to bigger than ever with all the old favourites making an appearance.

"The events all get underway from 9am tomorrow morning and the action doesn't stop until 8pm,” Mr Olm said.

"This year we're also going to have some live music on display thanks for the Western Down Regional Council's Groovin Into Town initiative so hang around for that later in the afternoon.”

The famous Mintie drop will take place at midday, the rodeo is on from 1pm and the fireworks will start at 7.30pm.

Entry is $5 for adults and nomination for events start at 50 cents with the majority of proceeds raised going towards Cancer Council.
