Nail-biting action was delivered when Team Neptune took on the formidable Team Pluto in the grand finals at Chinchilla Squash.

BLOOD, sweat and beers were the flavour of the night when Team Neptune took on the formidable Team Pluto in the grand finals at Chinchilla Squash.

Thursday night's hot, humid conditions saw hard-hitting players resort to drops and lobs while the lower players enjoyed the bounce of a hot ball.

Neptune fought through two semi-finals and took out the nail-biting title defeating Pluto 10 games to 9.

In an astounding outcome, both teams finished the night on 232 points a piece.

Consisting of Paul Rollings (1), Sam Henningsen (2), Neil Hart (3), Cameron Rollings (4) and Wendy Purnell (5) the win was a true testament to Neptunes 'never say die' attitude.

Things certainly didn't go all their way, with Pluto's, Kaleb Hartwig (1), Scott Bender (2), Rob Hart (3), Steve Johnson (4) and Max Hart (5), ensuring their opponents earned each and every point.

Wendy Purnell and Max Hart started with three closely contested games swinging in Wendy's favour.

With youth on his side Max went down fighting, running down every shot and forcing Wendy to draw on her years of experience to seal the match.

On court two, Rob and Neil Hart went head-to-head with epic rallies and close games producing one of the finals best matches.

Many grunts, lets and the occasional squeal later, Rob emerged the victor defeating Neil 3-2.

Neptunes Cameron Rollings was next to take the court and a nervous start saw Cameron fighting to win the first game against Steve Johnson.

A change in tack and settled nerves saw the 13-year-old take out the next two games convincingly securing Neptunes second win for the night.

Team captains Paul Rollings and Kaleb Hartwig were next on court with both players producing a match filled with quality squash.

Paul's tight drives and tactful drops earned him valuable points against the club's strongest player but Kaleb's low error rate, long reach and high skill level proved too strong, defeating Paul 3-0.

With Neptune ahead by two games Pluto's Scott Bender had to defeat Sam Henningsen in three to secure the win for his team.

In the tightly fought match, every inch of the court was covered with both players unwilling to let any shot past.

Fighting tooth and nail Sam snaffled two games from Scott, leading his team to victory, despite Scott winning the match 3-2.

With the season now over, handicapped tournaments will be held over the coming weeks and fixtures start again in February next year.
