Check In Qld: All your questions answered

With the Check In Qld app now mandatory for a number of new sectors, here is everything customers and business owners need to know.

Queensland government makes COVID check-in app mandatory

Business owners and customers across the state are being urged to resister for the Check In app as it becomes mandatory for a number of new sectors across Queensland from Friday 9 July at 1am.

These include venues that attract large crowds, such as stadiums, convention centres, theme parks, concert venues and cinemas; shopping centres and supermarkets and beauty and personal care service, such as hairdressing, beauty therapy and nail services.

As the list expands, both customers and business owners should be fully prepared to use the app to help keep Queensland safe.

So, what do you need to know?

I’M A CUSTOMER

Q: How do I download and use the app?

A: Download the Qld Check In app from Google Play or the App Store, and register your full name, phone number and email address. At participating venues, open the app, select ‘Check In Now’ and hover your smartphone over the displayed Check In Qld QR code.

Q: What is the benefit of using the app?

A: After a person is diagnosed with Covid, Queensland Health will begin conduct contact tracing. Public health officers will assess the movements of the person while they were infectious and determine who in the community are considered ‘close contacts’.

Q: What is a QR code?

A: This is a barcode that can be scanned by smartphones. It consists of black and white squares, and the app will give you the option of allowing your smartphone’s camera to scan the QR code when checking in. Alternatively, you can choose to manually enter the six-digit number, which is located next to the QR code on the venue QR code poster.

Q: What information is being collected by the Check In Qld app?

A: The app will receive your full name, phone number, email address, and date and time of patronage.

I’M A BUSINESS OWNER:

Q: How do I register?

A: Register your business on the Queensland Government website. As part of your registration, a business set-up guide will be provided, which includes a QR code poster which must be displayed in multiple locations.

Q: I have multiple locations, do I need to set up multiple codes or can I use one for all of them?

A: Each Check In Qld QR code is assigned to a physical address so each location/venue of a business will require a separate registration and QR code. Each physical address must also have a unique descriptor as duplicate display names cannot be processed.

Q: What are my responsibilities with customer information?

A: Customer information will sit inside the app which Queensland Health will only access if there is a need to do contact tracing. Your business does not need to do anything once customers have scanned the code.

Q: What is my customers do not want to use or can’t use the Check In Qld app?

A: If customers are unable or unwilling to use the Check In Qld App, businesses are to use the Business mode of the app to enter in customer details on their behalf.

Q: Do I still need to follow the Covid Safe Industry Plan or checklists if I have the QR code for customers?

A: Business owners need to read the COVID Safe Checklist for Restricted Businesses and the COVID Safe Events Checklist.
