Man charged after Charleville drug bust

A rural town in South West Queensland is once again at the centre of a major drug bust, mere weeks after four people were charged for their alleged connection to a “long-standing drug syndicate” in the town.

A 51-year-old Charleville man has been charged with 11 drug-related offences including possessing dangerous drugs, supplying dangerous drugs, receiving or possessing property obtained from trafficking or supplying, possessing utensils, and possessing anything used in the commission of a crime, after another bust by police.

Just under $900 in cash, a quantity of methylamphetamine, drug utensils and mobile phones were allegedly found by police during a search of a house on Cobb St, Charleville, a Queensland Police Service spokesperson said.

The man was remanded in custody after the search on July 26, but is expected to appear in Charleville Magistrates Court on September 17.

Officer in charge at Charleville Police Station Senior Sergeant Noel Jones said he hoped the arrests would send a clear message to the community.

“This investigation forms part of an ongoing effort by police to reduce the harm caused by the prevalence of hard drugs like methylamphetamine in the community,” Sergeant Jones said.

“I urge people to come forward with information about drug dealing.

“People can remain anonymous and can either call their local stations directly, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
