National Australia Bank Charleville branch temporarily closed

With regional bank closures sweeping the state, residents of a western Queensland town have been told it’s up to them to keep their local branch open.

Charleville residents may have noticed the doors to their local National Australia Bank branch have remained shut this week amid staff shortages.

While NAB assures customers the Charleville branch will reopen as quickly as possible, the uncertain future of the branch remains in the hands of locals.

A NAB spokesman confirmed the branch has been “temporarily closed” while they look for a second staff member to fill the role.

“It’s not permanently closed,” the spokesman said.

“We’ve got a job ad open at the moment which we’re trying to get someone in the community to fill.

“We’re just trying to get the word out, to someone in town hopefully, and we’ll be back open as soon as we can once we’ve got more staff there to have the branch up and running.

“In case people thought the branch was closed or gone, it’s not the case, it’s a temporary closure, we’re hoping to be back open.

“We’re working with council at the moment to try and find someone for the role and during this time too while its temporarily closed customers can still use the ATM at the branch.”

NAB Queensland retail customer executive Nadine Sleeman encouraged different people of all ages and experiences to apply for the customer adviser role.

“They’ll be the first point of contact for the Charleville community’s banking needs,” Ms Sleeman said.

“You don’t need to be an experienced banker or a finance expert to apply - what we’re looking for is someone who is friendly, helpful and really keen to help the Charleville community get brilliant banking service.

“While our branch is temporarily closed, our customers can continue accessing the ATM at the branch as well as the Bank@Post service just down the road at Australia Post.”
