Next week, Charleville is hosting a 1940s inspired Big Base dance party at the former top-secret WWII American airbase as part of the Queensland Music Trails.
Locals and visitors alike are invited to a big night of skirt-twirling and quick-stepping on April 19 and 20, with event organisers offering a 50 per cent discount to the local community.
Attendees can expect to be transported back in time as they listen to a large host of music from a bygone era, including pre-war blues, New Orleans jazz, jug band music, calypso, early rock and roll, and gospel.
Mayor Shaun (Zoro) Radnedge said he was thrilled that Charleville was chosen to take part in
this year’s Queensland Music Trails.
“Its an honour to be part of this year’s event. We can’t wait to welcome people to our town and show them the beauty and hospitality you can only get in Charleville,” he said.
“We really want to everyone to make an effort to come along, and have some fun.”
Headlined by renowned American roots musician C.W. Stoneking and His Primitive
Horn Orchestra, the two-day event includes a dance workshop at the Charleville Town Hall before the show to help attendees get into the swing.
Opening with a spot of vintage glam inspired by the 1940s girl groups reminiscent of the Andrews Sisters and the Sapphires, The Pacific Belles will perform harmonized big band melodies like Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and Sit Under the Apple Tree.
