POPULAR Channel Seven sports presenter Ben Davis will join 4BC as drive-time host in 2014.

The appointment comes after 18 years with Channel 7 News in Brisbane.

4BC general manager Anthony Frangi said:  “Ben Davis is a real talent, with energy to boot. Having Ben at the helm, Drive will be a highly-charged, informative show packed with plenty of punch."

David said: “What I love about radio is its immediacy. I have always been a keen follower of news, so the move to Drive feels right, especially after 18 years at 7 learning from some of the best in the business, the likes of Kay McGrath, Pat Welsh and the late David Fordham.

"I’ve learnt how to get to the heart of a story, and ask the tough questions.

“The program will focus on the issues that affect us day to day. But overall it will be all about the city I love - Brisbane, the best in the world. I also love talk-back and the ability to share stories with listeners really excites me.”

In 2007, Davis  was crash-tackled and set upon by rugby league fans in Melbourne.

The sport reporter was tackled to the ground by an inebriated fan during a live cross from the Broncos/Melbourne Storm NRL finals match at Olympic Park.

He had been interrupted several times as four men skylarked in the background – one even tried to stick Davis's tongue in his ear.
