More than 1650 local businesses will have access to high speed business-grade fibre at reduced wholesale prices across Emerald and Yeppoon, two of the new nbn Business Fibre Zone locations.

Chief customer officer at NBN Co, Brad Whitcomb, said nbn Business Fibre Zones helped level the playing field for businesses by significantly reducing the cost disparity that has existed for nbn business-grade broadband services in areas outside city CBDs.

“The need for reliable, fast, and secure broadband has never been greater across Australia,” he said.

“Businesses of all sizes across a range of industries are becoming more reliant on digital technologies and the value of an online sales and marketing capabilities, digital collaboration platforms and cloud-based tools has never been more significant.

“The nbn Business Fibre Zones initiative is all about providing businesses with opportunity and availability to unlock potential growth and productivity gains associated with technology investment and adoption, including job creation.

“We are helping to level the playing field and ensuring that more businesses throughout Australia can participate in the digital economy on an equal footing, with greater parity on recurring monthly wholesale charges in more locations.”

NBN Co will design and construct business-grade fibre within the nbn Business Fibre Zone at no charge to internet providers when businesses order a nbn Enterprise Ethernet product on a three-year term.

Business can receive the service and speed tier of their choice at the same CBD-equivalent wholesale charge that is applied to a business based in a city CBD area.

The Emerald and Yeppoon Business Fibre Zones are two of the 44 additional locations around Australia, and nine in Queensland including Ayr, Dalby, Goondiwindi, Hervey Bay, Nambour, North Lakes and Warwick.

NBN Co has now established a total of 49 nbn Business Fibre Zones in Queensland with the first 40 zones established in September, 2020.

Mr Whitcomb said in total, the 284 nbn Business Fibre Zones would help support 835,000 businesses across Australia.

In addition to the new Business Fibre Zones, NBN Co is also offering wholesale pricing discounts to eligible businesses outside of new and existing Business Fibre Zones.
