YAMBA is going global and Shane Henwood has been selected by Tourism Australia to showcase the town to the world.
The Yamba YHA Backpackers Beach Resort owner said Tourism Australia contacted him after reading reviews of the premises and his famous “10 buck tour” on the YHA website, the Lonely Planet and Trip Advisor.
He said the advertisement, which is one of 30 promoting Australian destinations to the rest of the world will go to air later this year.
“It's definitely going to put Yamba in the global spotlight,” he said.
“It's going to be played all over the world.”
“They will feature 30 unique people in 30 unique destinations in 30 days around Australia.”
Shane said the English production crew, who spent more than a month in Australia filming in different destinations during June, were particularly interested in his “10 buck tour”.
“I have been getting very good reviews from all over the world,” he said.
“People come everywhere just to come on my tour.”
Shane said he felt honoured to be chosen to introduce people around the world to what Yamba has to offer.
“I couldn't believe it at first.
“Once it sunk in I was actually stoked they picked me to do it for Yamba,” he said.
With the Australian dollar at record highs and tourism feeling the pinch, Shane hoped the advert would lure tourists to Yamba. “Hopefully it is going to bring a lot of good tourists to Yamba,” he said.
“To all the businesses around town, the cafes, the shops and the restaurants.”
“They have only chosen 30 places like Sydney and Melbourne and a few up and down the coast so we should see the benefits.”
