PAUL Kelly, Operator Please, Hot Chip, Laura Marling and Yeasayer are this week's Splendour in the Grass 2010 five band sneak peak.

Paul Kelly

From very early on in his career, Paul Kelly has been recognised as one of the most significant singer/songwriters in the country.  As well as issuing an enduring body of work with his own bands, Kelly has written songs with and for many other artists. Songs From The South, a selection of his popular songs first assembled in 1997 and expanded to a double album in 2008, continues to have wide appeal, with many of his songs now lodged deep in the Australian psyche.

Operator Please

The Queensland-based band Operator Please blasted onto the music scene with their debut albumYes Yes Vindictive featuring the particularly infectious hit single Just A Song About Ping Pong. Buoyed by the success of this song, the band travelled throughout Australia, Europe and Japan. When the ARIA Award-winning five-piece returned home after an exhausting 18 months touring the globe they released their second album Gloves.

Hot Chip

UK band Hot Chip consists of band members Joe Goddard, Alexis Taylor, Owen Clarke, Al Doyle and Felix Martin. Joe Goddard and Alexis Taylor are the core duo that have had the name Hot Chip since they played covers at Elliott School in Putney where they first met in their early teens. The band have released two albums, Made In The Dark and One Life Stand featuring hit song I Feel Better.

Laura Marling

Laura Marling is a folk singer-songwriter from Eversley in Hampshire, England. Her debut album Alas, I Cannot Swim was released on 4 February 2008 and was later nominated for the 2008 Mercury Prize. The follow-up album titled I Speak Because I Can was released on 22 March 2010. The album is preceded by the singles Goodbye England (Covered in Snow) released on iTunes in December 2009.

Yeasayer

Yeasayer (pronounced /'jeɪseɪ.ər/) is a band based in Brooklyn, New York. The band was formed in 2006 and consists of three core members; Chris Keating, Ira Wolf Tuton, and Anand Wilder. They first came to attention after appearing at the SXSW festival in early 2007. The released their debut album All Hour Cymbals followed by their second album Odd Blood featuring tracks O.N.E and Madder Red.
