Authorities have been pushed to take action following an outcry from locals who were horrified about the condition of Moranbah Hospital facilities.
Termite repair and rectification works are nearing completion at the rural hospital after a local mum took a stand in April, bringing attention to the cracked ceilings and walls with visible termite damage.
A Mackay Hospital and Health Service (Mackay HHS) spokeswoman said works had been carried out to prevent the issue from recurring.
“Termite repair work is being undertaken at Moranbah Hospital and is nearing completion,” she said.
“Rectification works to internally affected areas have been undertaken, along with thermal imaging and removal of outside concrete pavers in areas to identify any entry points.
“Increased monitoring for termite activity will continue.”
Mackay HHS is also progressing with a business case for Moranbah Hospital, which explores the potential scope for a redevelopment project, after receiving $500,000 from the Queensland Government.
