Two men faced Clermont Magistrates Court on July 6, 2022, charged with drink driving offences.

Dean Anthony Williams, 38, pleaded guilty to one count of being responsible for a car whilst intoxicated on June 21, 2022 at Clermont.

Police Prosecutor Sergeant Rachel Todd said the incident occurred at 4.10am when police were called to search a parked car that was turned on.

In it they found Williams who was reclined in the driver’s seat, conscious, but intoxicated with an open can of Jack Daniels Whiskey on his lap.

He completed a breath analysis which returned a reading of .155.

Williams said he regretted the offence, he had respect for the law, and that it was a mistake.

Magistrate Rosemary Gilbert asked Williams what kind of work he did and if losing his licence would make travelling to and from work harder.

Williams said he was supporting a family, worked at a mine and that not being able to drive would make it more difficult to get to and from work.

Ms Gilbert convicted and fined Williams $600 and disqualified him from driving for six months.

William Cameron Jarrett, 21, pleaded guilty to one count of driving over the general alcohol limit but not over the middle alcohol limit.

Sergeant Todd said that on July 2, 2022 around 11.42pm Jarrett was pulled over by police for a RBT at Clermont.

He returned a reading of .069.

Jarrett, who works as a station hand, told the police he was driving because he was going to get food.

When asked by Ms Gilbert whether there was anything he would like to tell the court, Jarrett submitted character references and said he had completed a road test online.

When asked what he learnt from that test, Jarrett said his decision to drive after drinking was irresponsible and careless.

Ms Gilbert said based on written character references by his colleagues, Jarrett was well regarded.

She convicted and fined Jarrett $400 and disqualified him from driving for one month.
